India’s Role in Global Food Standards Lauded at 88th Codex Executive Committee Meet in Rome

India’s role in global food standard development was appreciated in the 88th session of the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CCEXEC 88), held at the FAO Headquarters in Rome from 14–18 July 2025.

- The Committee reviewed progress on the India-led Millets Group Standard, appreciated India’s efforts via the Codex Committee on Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CCFFV), and endorsed the standards for further approval at the 48th Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48) in November 2025.

- India will also serve as co-chair in new work proposals to develop standards for fresh turmeric and broccoli. The Indian delegation from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) effectively represented national interests.
