IN NEWS — Indian Navy hosts Fifth Edition of Bilateral Exercise ‘Samudra Shakti – 2025’ with Indonesian Navy at Visakhapatnam
ANALYSIS
- Context:
The Indian Navy is conducting the fifth edition of the bilateral maritime exercise ‘Samudra Shakti – 2025’ with the Indonesian Navy from 14–17 October 2025 at Visakhapatnam, under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC). - Participating Units:
- Indian Navy: INS Kavaratti – an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Corvette of the Eastern Fleet.
- Indonesian Navy: KRI John Lie – a Corvette equipped with an integral helicopter, which arrived at Visakhapatnam to a ceremonial welcome.
- Phases of the Exercise:
- Harbour Phase:
- Focused on building camaraderie and professional cooperation.
- Activities included Cross Deck Visits, Joint Yoga Sessions, Friendly Sports Events, and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE).
- Sea Phase:
- Involves dynamic maritime operations such as Helicopter Operations, Air Defence Exercises, Weapon Firing Drills, and Visit, Board, Search & Seizure (VBSS) operations.
- Objectives:
- To enhance interoperability between the Indian and Indonesian Navies.
- To strengthen mutual understanding and share best practices in maritime operations.
- To reaffirm the shared commitment of both nations towards stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
