  • Divya Deshmukh, the 19-year-old chess prodigy from Nagpur, has become the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women’s World Cup (2025) held in Batumi, Georgia.
  • She also became the 4th Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster (GM) title.

🔹 Key Highlights:

  • Defeated Koneru Humpy (World No. 5 & reigning World Rapid Chess Champion) in the final via tiebreakers.
  • Both classical games were drawn, and she won the second game of the speed chess tiebreakers using black pieces.
  • Divya was the 18th seed in the tournament, while Humpy was one of the favourites.
