Divya Deshmukh, the 19-year-old chess prodigy from Nagpur, has become the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women’s World Cup (2025) held in Batumi, Georgia.
She also became the 4th Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster (GM) title.
🔹 Key Highlights:
Defeated Koneru Humpy (World No. 5 & reigning World Rapid Chess Champion) in the final via tiebreakers.
Both classical games were drawn, and she won the second game of the speed chess tiebreakers using black pieces.
Divya was the 18th seed in the tournament, while Humpy was one of the favourites.
