Bihar CM Launches Development Projects Worth ₹438.51 Crore During Pragati Yatra in Munger

Introduction

As part of the Pragati Yatra, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 160 development projects worth ₹438.51 crore in Munger district. The initiatives span infrastructure, rural development, women's empowerment, tourism, and road connectivity, reflecting the state's emphasis on inclusive development and regional infrastructure expansion.

ANALYSIS

The launch of 160 development projects demonstrates Bihar's strategy of accelerating district-level infrastructure creation while simultaneously promoting social welfare, employment generation, and tourism development. The projects include both completed works and new investments, indicating continuity in public infrastructure creation.Of the total projects, 73 schemes worth ₹148.40 crore were inaugurated, while 87 schemes worth ₹290.12 crore received foundation stones. This balanced approach combines immediate public benefits with long-term infrastructure planning. The Chief Minister also interacted with Jeevika Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and distributed symbolic financial assistance, highlighting the role of women-led community institutions in rural livelihood generation and financial inclusion. Assistance included:

  • ₹11.16 crore to 2,268 Self-Help Groups.
  • ₹70.24 crore to 4,310 Jeevika Didi families.
  • Distribution of tricycles to Divyangjan, strengthening social inclusion initiatives.

A major infrastructure proposal reviewed during the visit was the 7 km Tarapur Ring Road (Bypass). The proposed corridor will connect State Highway-22 and surrounding rural roads, helping decongest Tarapur Chowk, improve regional mobility, and facilitate faster transportation of goods and passengers. The Chief Minister also reviewed the proposed development of Rishikund, a natural hot spring destination located amid hill ranges in Munger. Recognising its religious and ecological significance, he directed officials to prepare a comprehensive development plan aimed at transforming the site into a major tourism destination. Improved tourism infrastructure can enhance local employment, hospitality services, and regional economic growth.Inspection of schools, Anganwadi centres, and Jeevika libraries during the visit reflects continued emphasis on human capital development, education, nutrition, and rural institutional strengthening.Overall, the initiatives align with Bihar's broader objectives of improving physical infrastructure, promoting women-led development, expanding tourism, and strengthening rural governance, thereby supporting balanced socio-economic development.
