Introduction

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ (SNSP) Abhiyaan along with the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. The initiative aims to strengthen women-centric healthcare delivery and marks the largest-ever health outreach programme for women and children in India.

ANALYSIS

Vision: Women-led Development as Core of Viksit Bharat

The campaign positions Nari Shakti as the foundation of national development, emphasising that healthy mothers lead to healthy families and societies. It aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, where women-led development is a central pillar. The Prime Minister highlighted that lack of awareness and access often leads to late diagnosis of diseases, which the campaign seeks to address through early screening and preventive healthcare.

Scale and Coverage: Largest Health Outreach

The SNSP Abhiyaan is unprecedented in its scale:

  • More than 10 lakh health camps across India
  • Duration: 17 September to 2 October 2025
  • Coverage across:
    • Ayushman Arogya Mandirs
    • Community Health Centres (CHCs)
    • District Hospitals
    • Other government health facilities

This makes it the largest coordinated health outreach initiative focused on women and children.

Institutional Collaboration

The campaign is jointly led by:

  • Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW)
  • Ministry of Women & Child Development (MoWCD)

It reflects inter-ministerial convergence, integrating health, nutrition, and social welfare interventions.

Key Health Interventions

The initiative adopts a comprehensive lifecycle approach covering preventive, promotive, and curative aspects:1. Disease Screening and Early Detection

  • Focus on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
  • Screening for:
    • Cancer
    • Anaemia
    • Tuberculosis (TB)
    • Sickle Cell Disease

The campaign places special emphasis on tribal regions, where Sickle Cell Anaemia is prevalent. Key highlights:

  • 1 croreth Sickle Cell Card distributed
  • Over 5 crore individuals screened under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Mission

This indicates a targeted public health strategy for vulnerable populations.

Strengthening Healthcare Delivery Ecosystem

The initiative integrates multiple healthcare providers:

  • Government institutions:
    • AIIMS
    • Defence & Railway Hospitals
    • ESIC Hospitals
    • CGHS Centres
    • Institutes of National Importance
  • Support from private healthcare sector

This ensures specialist services (Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Psychiatry, etc.) reach last-mile beneficiaries, enhancing both quality and accessibility.

Linkages with Existing Schemes

The campaign complements ongoing initiatives such as:

  • Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (2017)
    • Benefited 4.5 crore women
    • Over ₹19,000 crore transferred
  • Ayushman Bharat Scheme
    • Provides financial protection (Suraksha Kavach) for further treatment

Thus, SNSP acts as a convergence platform integrating screening, treatment, and financial protection.

  • ASHAs, ANMs
  • Anganwadi workers
  • Self Help Groups (SHGs)
  • Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs)
