IN NEWS: Approval of PMAY-U 2.0 and Jal Hi AMRIT Scheme in First 100 Days of Government
ANALYSIS
1. Major Housing Push: PMAY-U 2.0 Approved
- In the first 100 days of the new government, PMAY-U 2.0 has been approved with an investment of ₹10 lakh crore.
- The Union Cabinet on 10 June 2024 resolved to provide assistance to 3 crore additional rural and urban households for construction of houses.
- PMAY-U 2.0 aims to meet the housing needs of 1 crore families, ensuring a dignified living environment.
2. Focus on Ease of Living
- Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal stated that both the Government and the Ministry are committed to enhancing ease of living and improving the quality of life for citizens.
- The vision of Housing for All remains central to government policy.
3. Urban Transport Expansion
- In the first 100 days, three major metro projects worth ₹31,000 crorewere approved:
- Bengaluru Metro Phase-3
- Thane Internal Ring Road Metro Project
- Southward Extension of Pune Metro Rail Project
- These approvals reflect the Government’s push to improve mass transportation and reduce urban congestion.
4. Approval of New Scheme – Jal Hi AMRIT
- A new initiative Jal Hi AMRIT has been approved within the first 100 days.
- The scheme focuses on recycling, processing and reuse of water in both rural and urban areas.
- Objective: Incentivize States/UTs to efficiently manage Used Water Treatment Plants (UWTPs/STPs) to ensure availability of high-quality treated water.
- Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and parastatal agencies are nominating STPs to participate in this initiative.
5. Progress Under AMRUT 2.0
- As part of 100-day achievements under AMRUT 2.0:
- 68 projects worth ₹3,020 crore and
- 41 projects worth ₹3,805 crore
- Total: ₹6,825 crore
- Projects undertaken across: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh.
- Cumulative progress in 100 days: Inauguration and foundation-laying of 263 projects worth ₹9,352 crore.
6. Swachh Bharat Mission & Swachhata Hi Seva 2024
- Under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign:
- Around 7.5 lakh Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) have been registered.
- Nearly 86% CTUs have already been cleaned.
