Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin Lauds Ayurveda During Visit to AIIA, New Delhi

Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin visited the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi as part of his official visit to India. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties in healthcare, traditional medicine, and trade, underscoring India–Brazil cooperation in integrative and sustainable health systems.


Key Highlights:

  1. Promotion of Ayurveda as Global Health Science:
    Geraldo Alckmin hailed Ayurveda as a “5,000-year-old treasure of health and wisdom”, emphasizing its holistic and preventive approach to wellness. He praised AIIA’s role in advancing education, clinical practice, and research in Ayurvedic medicine.
  2. India–Brazil Health Diplomacy:
    The visit reflects the strengthening of India–Brazil cooperation under the broader theme of traditional medicine diplomacy. Both nations aim to promote sustainable, preventive healthcare systems that combine traditional wisdom with modern science.
  3. Institutional Collaboration:
    AIIA has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)with key Brazilian institutions:
    • Sri Vajera Foundation & Associated Institutions
    • Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) & Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN)
    • Future Vision Institute & Federal University of São Paulo
    These MoUs focus on academic exchange, joint research, capacity building, and global standardization of Ayurveda practices.

    The Vice President was accompanied by:

    • Kenneth Nobrega, Ambassador of Brazil to India
    • Romison Rodrigues, Director, ANVISA (Brazil’s Health Regulatory Agency)
      The delegation was hosted by Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Director, AIIA.
