Cabinet Clears ₹8,146.21 Crore Tato-II Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh

  • Approval & Cost – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved an investment of ₹8,146.21 crore for the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Timeline & Capacity – To be completed in 72 months; installed capacity: 700 MW (4×175 MW). Estimated generation: 2,738.06 million units/year.
  • Implementation – Joint venture between NEEPCO and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Central Support – ₹458.79 crore budgetary support for roads, bridges, transmission lines; ₹436.13 crore Central Financial Assistance for state’s equity share.
  • Power Allocation – State to receive 12% free power; additional 1% for Local Area Development Fund (LADF).
  • Socio-Economic Impact – Infrastructure development, employment generation, boost to local suppliers/MSMEs under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
  • Infrastructure Component – 32.88 km of roads & bridges (available for local use); ₹20 crore dedicated for hospitals, schools, markets, playgrounds.
