The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four new semiconductor projects in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh with an estimated investment of ₹4,594 crore.
Key Highlights:
- Semiconductor & Electronics Push:
- The projects aim to strengthen India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
- Electronics manufacturing has grown 6x in the last 11 years, while exports have risen 8x.
- Mobile manufacturing units increased from 2 to over 300, and mobile phone exports surged 127x, reaching ₹2 lakh crore.
- Government is extending support to domestic companies, startups, and MSMEs for chip design.
- International Collaboration:
- Semicon India 2025 to be held in New Delhi from 2nd September 2025 with Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea as partner countries.
- Infrastructure Approvals:
- Lucknow Metro Phase 1B (Charbagh–Vasant Kunj): Estimated cost ₹5,801 crore, 12 stations, completion in 5 years.
- Tato-II Hydroelectric Project (Shi Yomi, Arunachal Pradesh): Capacity 700 MW, completion in 6 years, to provide stable electricity supply and boost regional development.
- Energy Milestone:
- India’s non-fossil fuel capacity has crossed 50% of the total installed power capacity.
