The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation of targeted subsidies under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the year 2025–26 at an estimated cost of ₹12,000+ crore. The subsidy will be ₹300 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for up to nine refills per year, benefiting 10.33 crore households.

Other Cabinet Approvals

1. LPG Compensation to OMCs
   • ₹30,000 crore to IOCL, BPCL, HPCL for under-recoveries.
   • Distribution: By Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, in 12 tranches.
2. MERITE Scheme (Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education)
   • Outlay: ₹4,200 crore.
   • Coverage: 275 govt and govt-aided technical institutions.
   • Aim: Improve quality, equity, and governance in technical education.
3. Special Development Packages – Assam & Tripura
   • Outlay: ₹4,250 crore.
   • Focus: Infrastructure & livelihood projects for employment generation.
4. Marakkanam–Puducherry Highway Project (Tamil Nadu)
   • Four-lane highway.
   • Cost: ₹2,157 crore.
   • Purpose: Decongest corridor, improve connectivity to Chennai, Puducherry, Villupuram, Nagapattinam.
