India’s top 10 states with longest National Highway network

Analysis:

1. India’s National Highway (NH) network has expanded significantly over the past decade, growing from 91,287 km in March 2014 to 1,46,342 km as of June 30, 2025, an increase of 55,055 km.
2. The length of access-controlled High-Speed Corridors / Expressways has increased from 93 km (2014) to 5,110 km, of which 2,636 km are operational.
3. Top 10 states with the longest NH networks (as of June 30, 2025):
   • Maharashtra: 18,462 km
   • Uttar Pradesh: 12,123 km
   • Rajasthan: 10,733 km
   • Madhya Pradesh: 9,263 km
   • Andhra Pradesh: 8,683 km
   • Karnataka: 8,191 km
   • Gujarat: 8,111 km
   • Tamil Nadu: 7,000 km
   • Bihar: 6,155 km
   • Odisha: 5,897 km
4. The expansion reflects India’s focus on infrastructure development under mission-mode projects by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), aimed at improving connectivity, trade efficiency, and regional development.
5. States such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh dominate due to their large geographical size and economic activity, while states like Bihar and Odisha show substantial growth compared to 2014, enhancing rural-urban connectivity.
