INS SANDHAYAK IN CHANGI NAVAL BASE, SINGAPORE

INS Sandhayak, the first indigenous Survey Vessel Large (SVL) with advanced hydrographic capabilities, has arrived in Singapore on 9th August 2025, coinciding with Singapore’s National Day, for a three-day visit.


Key Highlights:

  1. Purpose of Visit
    • Reaffirms India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation.
    • Strengthens bilateral hydrographic ties between India and Singapore.
    • Facilitates technical/professional exchanges under the Indian Navy's Hydrographic Department framework.
  2. Significance for Maritime Diplomacy
    • Demonstrates India’s growing role in regional hydrographic capacity building.
    • Enhances strategic relations with Singapore in the maritime domain.
  3. About INS Sandhayak
    • Commissioned: February 2024 in presence of the Raksha Mantri.
    • Capabilities:
      • Full-scale coastal & deep-water surveying.
      • Search & Rescue (SAR) and humanitarian operations.
      • Equipped with onboard helicopter & hospital facilities.
  4. Planned Engagements in Singapore
    • Call on Mr. Gary Chew, Assistant Chief Hydrographer, Singapore.
    • Courtesy call on Col. Chauah Meng Soon, Commander 9th Flotilla, RSN.
    • Showcasing hydrographic capabilities to RSN personnel.
    • Outreach: Visit by school children & families from the Indian High Commission.
