    • The event will see participation from over 5,000 university athletes from across India.
    • It will feature 23 medal sports and 1 demonstration sport (kho-kho).
  3. New Additions to the Games:
    • Beach Volleyball, Canoeing and Kayaking, and Cycling are being introduced for the first time in the KIUG programme.
    • The inclusion of new sports reflects the government’s focus on broadening India’s sports ecosystem and nurturing diverse talent.
  4. Union Minister’s Remarks:
    • Announcing the event, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, emphasized that KIUG is a crucial link in India’s sporting pathway.
    • He stated that universities globally act as cradles for sporting excellence, and KIUG provides young athletes a national platform to showcase their skills.
    • Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Khelo India initiative has built a strong ecosystem that fosters participation, talent identification, and sports excellence.
  5. Objective and Vision:
    • The Rajasthan edition aims to promote sports culture in universities and encourage students to balance academics with athletics.
    • It also seeks to strengthen the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” through competition and camaraderie.
  6. Sports Disciplines Featured:
    • The 23 medal sports include archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, fencing, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, mallakhamb, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, yogasana, cycling, beach volleyball, canoeing and kayaking.
    • Kho-kho will be featured as a demonstration event.
  7. Previous Edition:
    • The last KIUG was held in the North East region, where Chandigarh University emerged as the overall champion, followed by Lovely Professional University and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
  8. About Khelo India Scheme:
    • The Khelo India Scheme is a flagship Central Sector initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
    • It serves as a talent identification and development platform, helping athletes reach national and international levels.
    • So far, 20 editionsof Khelo India Games have been organized, including:
      • 7 Youth Games
      • 4 University Games
      • 5 Winter Games
      • 2 Para Games
      • 1 Beach Games
      • 1 Water Sports Festival
