📰 In News: Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025

Context:

  • The 5th edition of Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025was held in two phases:
    • Leh, Ladakh: 23–27 January 2025.
    • Jammu & Kashmir (Gulmarg): 9–12 March 2025.
  • Over 400 athletes from 19 teams (States, UTs & Institutions) participated across 6 winter sports disciplines.

Key Highlights:

  • Overall Champion: Indian Army (18 medals – 7 Gold, 5 Silver, 6 Bronze).
  • 2nd Place: Himachal Pradesh (18 medals – 6 Gold, 5 Silver, 7 Bronze).
  • 3rd Place: Ladakh (7 medals – 4 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze).
  • Other top performers: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, ITBP, Karnataka, Telangana, J&K, Uttarakhand.
  • Historic Feats:
    • Nayana Sri Talluri (Telangana, 15 years old) – won hat-trick of gold medals in speed skating (incl. women’s 500m short track, the first gold of KIWG 2025).
    • Aanchal Thakur – golds in alpine skiing slalom & giant slalom at Gulmarg.
  • Venues:
    • Phase I (Ladakh): Ice Hockey & Ice Skating at NDS Sports Complex & Guphuk Pond.
    • Phase II (J&K): Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Ski mountaineering, Snowboarding at Kangdoori Phase-1 & Golf Course Club, Gulmarg.
