PixxelSpace India-led consortium to build India’s first commercial EO satellite constellation
- Context: The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has selected the PixxelSpace India-led consortium to design, build, and operate India’s first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellation under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model.
- Consortium Members: PixxelSpace India (lead), Piersight Space, Satsure Analytics India, and Dhruva Space.
- Significance: First time in Indian space sector history where a private consortium will invest over ₹1,200 crore in five years for an EO constellation.
- Features of Constellation:
- 12 advanced EO satellites
- Equipped with panchromatic, multispectral, hyperspectral, and microwave Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors
- Capable of delivering Analysis Ready Data (ARD) and Value-Added Services (VAS) for sectors like climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure, marine surveillance, national security, and urban planning.
- Benefits:
- Reduces reliance on foreign satellite data sources
- Ensures data sovereignty
- Positions India as a global leader in geospatial intelligence solutions
- PPP Model:
- Govt. to provide strategic, technical, and policy support
- Consortium to own, operate, manufacture satellites, launch from Indian soil, and commercialise data services
- Deployment: Phased over the next 4 years with continuous upgrades and expanded coverage.
