PixxelSpace India-led consortium to build India’s first commercial EO satellite constellation

  • Context: The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has selected the PixxelSpace India-led consortium to design, build, and operate India’s first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellation under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model.
  • Consortium Members: PixxelSpace India (lead), Piersight Space, Satsure Analytics India, and Dhruva Space.
  • Significance: First time in Indian space sector history where a private consortium will invest over ₹1,200 crore in five years for an EO constellation.
  • Features of Constellation:
    • 12 advanced EO satellites
    • Equipped with panchromatic, multispectral, hyperspectral, and microwave Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors
    • Capable of delivering Analysis Ready Data (ARD) and Value-Added Services (VAS) for sectors like climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure, marine surveillance, national security, and urban planning.
  • Benefits:
    • Reduces reliance on foreign satellite data sources
    • Ensures data sovereignty
    • Positions India as a global leader in geospatial intelligence solutions
  • PPP Model:
    • Govt. to provide strategic, technical, and policy support
    • Consortium to own, operate, manufacture satellites, launch from Indian soil, and commercialise data services
  • Deployment: Phased over the next 4 years with continuous upgrades and expanded coverage.
