🍚 PM Garib Kalyan Yojana: Free Ration Shortage Hits Bihar, 150 PDS Dealers in Patna Yet to Receive Rice & Wheat
Patna, August 27, 2024:
Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY), free ration distribution in urban Patna has been delayed, leaving many beneficiaries without rice and wheat.
Key Points:
- By August 31, 2024, beneficiaries are supposed to receive monthly free ration under PMGKY.
- In Ward 1 of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), over 4,000 ration card holders rely on 14 Fair Price Shops (PDS shops).
- As of Monday afternoon, 150 PDS dealers in this ward had not received ration stock from warehouses.
- Each beneficiary is entitled to 5 kg ration per month (4 kg rice + 1 kg wheat). For a 5-member family, 25 kg per month is allocated.
Causes & Logistics:
- Ration is supplied from FCI warehouses in Danapur, Phulwarisharif, Katra, and Musalhapur.
- Delay in supply affects distribution; leftover ration will be added to the next month’s allocation.
- Online system ensures tracking, but delayed delivery cannot be compensated after the month ends.
Beneficiary Impact:
- People visit PDS shops daily but leave empty-handed.
- Ration not collected on time is lost due to system restrictions.
- Ward-level officers maintain communication with warehouses to resolve the issue.
