Analysis:

The 100th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) marked a milestone in India’s infrastructure coordination efforts. The review emphasized enhancing multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency, core objectives of the GatiShakti initiative.Five major projects were evaluated—two railway lines, two highway projects, and one metro expansion—each aimed at improving regional linkages and decongesting transport corridors.

  • Railway Projects:
    • Hosapete–Ballari (Karnataka) – quadrupling to boost freight movement in mineral-rich zones.
    • Gondia–Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh & Maharashtra) – doubling to ease congestion on key freight routes.
  • Highway Projects:
    • Mahwa–Mandawar (Rajasthan) – widening to strengthen regional connectivity.
    • Anisabad–Deedargunj (Bihar) – six-lane elevated road to decongest Patna and reduce travel time.
  • Metro Project:
    • Jaipur Metro Phase II – a 42.8 km North–South corridor with 36 stations to enhance urban mobility and promote Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).

The meeting, chaired by Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary (Logistics), DPIIT, reflects the ongoing effort to ensure that all infrastructure projects align with the integrated multimodal vision of PM GatiShakti, optimizing investments and maximizing socio-economic benefits.
