Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘SUBHADRA’, the largest women-centric scheme, at Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 17 September 2024.


Key Highlights

  • SUBHADRA Scheme
    • Flagship scheme of Government of Odisha, launched by PM Modi.
    • Coverage: More than 1 crore women.
    • Benefit: Each eligible woman (21–60 years) to receive ₹50,000 over 5 years (₹10,000/year in 2 installments) directly into Aadhaar-linked DBT-enabled accounts.
    • Linked with a pilot project of RBI’s digital currency.
    • Objective: Economic empowerment of women; promotion of financial inclusion.
    • PM initiated fund transfer to 10 lakh beneficiaries during the launch.
  • Other launches at the event
    • Railway Projects worth ₹2,800 crore – for improved connectivity in Odisha.
    • National Highway Projects worth ₹1,000 crore – to boost road infrastructure.
    • PMAY-related initiatives:
      • Released 1st installment to ~10 lakh PMAY-G beneficiaries across 14 states.
      • Participated in Griha Pravesh of 26 lakh beneficiaries (PMAY-U + PMAY-G).
      • Handed over keys of pucca houses to beneficiaries.
      • Launched Awaas+ 2024 App for survey of additional households (PMAY-G).
      • Released Operational Guidelines of PMAY-Urban 2.0.

    • Linked women empowerment with Odisha’s cultural icon Goddess Subhadra.
    • Recalled 100 days of NDA Govt. achievements (3 crore pucca houses, ₹2 lakh crore youth package, 75,000 new medical seats, doubling of tribal affairs budget, etc.).
