📚 Static Facts – Quit India Movement (1942)
- Date of Launch: 8 August 1942
- Venue of Resolution: Wardha, 14 July 1942 – AICC passed the historic ‘Quit India’ resolution.
- Immediate Cause: Collapse of the Cripps Mission.
- Nature of Movement: A true mass movement involving students, workers, peasants, and labour class through bandhs and hartals.
- Major Leaders: Mahatma Gandhi, Jayaprakash Narayan, Aruna Asaf Ali, Ram Manohar Lohia, Usha Mehta, Biju Patnaik, Sucheta Kriplani.
- Women Leaders: Aruna Asaf Ali, Matangini Hazra (Bengal), Kanaklata Barua (Assam), Rama Devi (Odisha).
- Slogan: “Quit India” coined by Yusuf Meherally (socialist, trade unionist, Mayor of Mumbai). He also coined “Simon Go Back”.
- Special Note: Aruna Asaf Ali famously hoisted the Tricolour at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay during the launch.
- Outcome: Brutal suppression by British; mass arrests; underground networks continued the struggle.
