PM Modi receives Namibia’s highest civilian award – “The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis”
Why in News?
- On 10 July 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Namibia’s highest civilian honour, “The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis” by the President of Namibia.
- This award recognises his role in strengthening India–Namibia bilateral relations and fostering cooperation in key global issues.
About the Honour
- The award is named after the Welwitschia Mirabilis plant, an extraordinary desert plant found in Namibia, known for its longevity, resilience, and cultural symbolism.
- The award reflects the values of endurance, courage, and strength of the Namibian people.
- It is conferred upon foreign dignitaries for their exceptional service in strengthening Namibia’s relations with the world.

- Dedicated the award to 140 crore Indians and to the people of both nations.
