📰 In News: PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana – India’s Solar Revolution
- Milestone Achieved: 10 lakh households have been solar-powered under the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative, as of 10th March 2025.
- Launch: 13th February 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Applications & Subsidies:
- 47.3 lakh applications received.
- ₹4,770 crore disbursed to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.
- Collateral-free loans up to ₹2 lakh at 6.75% interest via 12 Public Sector Banks.
- Energy & Environment Impact:
- Every installation offsets carbon emissions equivalent to 100 trees.
- Estimated reduction of 720 million tonnes of CO₂ over system lifetime.
- Scheme projected to add 30 GW rooftop solar capacity by March 2027.
- Financial & Economic Benefits:
- Zero electricity bills for beneficiaries.
- Government saves ₹75,000 crore annually on electricity costs.
- Job creation: ~17 lakh direct jobs in manufacturing, logistics, O&M, and services.
- State Performance:
- Chandigarh & Daman & Diu: 100% government rooftop solar targets achieved.
- Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu contributing significantly.
