What:

The government has completed port connectivity projects worth Rs 52,199 crore across 10 states under the Sagarmala Programme. These projects aim to enhance connectivity between seaports and industrial nodes, reduce logistics costs, and improve cargo movement efficiency.Why in News:

The completion marks a significant milestone in port-led industrialization and logistics infrastructure development, supporting India’s goal of becoming a global maritime and trade hub. It also highlights progress in the Port Connectivity Pillar of Sagarmala, which identified 266 projects worth Rs 1,87,889 crore in 15 states.Key Facts:

  • Completed Projects: 84 projects; Odisha (11 projects, Rs 13,800 crore), Andhra Pradesh (16 projects, Rs 9,312 crore), Gujarat (8 projects, Rs 8,048 crore).
  • Projects Under Implementation: 54 projects; Andhra Pradesh leads with 21 projects (Rs 33,340 crore), Tamil Nadu (10 projects, Rs 10,956 crore).
  • Projects Under Development: 128 projects; Maharashtra leads with 24 projects (Rs 24,810 crore), Odisha (8 projects, Rs 11,744 crore), Gujarat (22 projects, Rs 11,316 crore).
  • The Sagarmala Programme covers five pillars: port modernization, port connectivity, port-led industrialization, coastal community development, and coastal shipping & inland waterways.
  • Agencies involved: Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Railways, Indian Railways, NHAI, Inland Waterways Authority, state governments, and major ports.
  • Gap Analysis: 62 new road and rail infrastructure gaps across industrial nodes identified.
