📰 IN NEWS – Raja Khas to Become First Solar Power Village of Himachal Pradesh
Raja Khas village in Indora tehsil, Kangra district, is set to become Himachal Pradesh’s first fully solar-powered village.
The village has around 560 families (~3,000 population) and spans 675.37 hectares.
The project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, supported by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The Union Government will provide ₹1 crore grant to develop it as an ideal solar energy village and promote green energy adoption.
Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Council Ltd is the implementing agency, while Himurja is the nodal agency to monitor the scheme.
A Model Solar Village Implementation Agency will prepare the DPR (detailed project report) and oversee the installation of decentralised solar systems.
This initiative will provide free solar power to all households, as well as streetlights, schools, health centres, irrigation systems, and agricultural solar pumps.
Raja Khas was selected out of 43 shortlisted villages in Kangra for this pilot project.
