📰 IN NEWS – Raja Khas to Become First Solar Power Village of Himachal Pradesh

  • Raja Khas village in Indora tehsil, Kangra district, is set to become Himachal Pradesh’s first fully solar-powered village.
  • The village has around 560 families (~3,000 population) and spans 675.37 hectares.
  • The project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, supported by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
  • The Union Government will provide ₹1 crore grant to develop it as an ideal solar energy village and promote green energy adoption.
  • Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Council Ltd is the implementing agency, while Himurja is the nodal agency to monitor the scheme.
  • A Model Solar Village Implementation Agency will prepare the DPR (detailed project report) and oversee the installation of decentralised solar systems.
  • This initiative will provide free solar power to all households, as well as streetlights, schools, health centres, irrigation systems, and agricultural solar pumps.
  • Raja Khas was selected out of 43 shortlisted villages in Kangra for this pilot project.
