✅ Why in News?

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) till 15th August 2025.

🔎 About PMMVY:

• Launched: 2017
• Ministry: Ministry of Women and Child Development
• Target Group: Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM)
• Nature: Centrally Sponsored Scheme
• Financial Benefit: ₹5,000 (in instalments) for the first live birth, in addition to the benefits under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

🎯 Objectives of PMMVY:

• Improve nutritional intake and health-seeking behaviour among pregnant and lactating women.
• Provide partial wage compensation for wage-loss during pregnancy and post-delivery.
• Promote positive attitude towards the girl child.

👥 Latest Update (August 2025):

• Extended drive is a door-to-door awareness-cum-enrolment campaign led by Anganwadi and ASHA workers.
• Aim: To ensure maximum registration of eligible women under the scheme.
• Beneficiary Stats (since inception):
  • 4.05 crore+ women have received at least one instalment.
  • Total DBT disbursed: ₹19,028 crore directly into bank/post office accounts.
