World Lion Day 2025 to be celebrated tomorrow in Gujarat

World Lion Day 2025 – Key Highlights for UPSCEvent & Location:

• Celebrated on 10 August 2025 at Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Devbhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat.
• Organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in collaboration with the Gujarat Forest Department.

Significance:

• World Lion Day is observed annually to raise awareness about lion conservation and highlight their ecological importance.
• Particularly relevant to Asiatic lions, which are found only in India (Gir Forest & surrounding areas in Gujarat).

Key Announcements:

• Launch of a ₹180 crore wildlife conservation initiative.
• Large-scale virtual participation — lakhs of students from 11 districts in Gujarat to join celebrations.
