Event Overview

  • Occasion: Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards & Wetland Cities Recognition Ceremony 2025

  • Objective: Recognize best-performing cities under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and Wetland City Accreditation under Ramsar Convention

Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards 2025

Purpose: Annual clean air survey to evaluate cities’ efforts in air pollution mitigation. Conducted for 130 cities under NCAP.

Category-wise Winners

Category 1 – Population over 10 lakh

  • 1st: Indore – Score 200/200, ₹1.5 Cr, 16 lakh trees planted, 120 electric buses & 150 CNG buses
  • 2nd: Jabalpur – Score 199/200, ₹1 Cr, 11 MW waste-to-energy plant, greenery development
  • 3rd:Agra & Surat – Score 196/200, ₹25 lakh each
    • Agra: Legacy waste dump remediation, Miyawaki plantations
    • Surat: EV policy incentives, 38% green cover

Category 2 – Population 3–10 lakh

  • 1st: Amravati – Score 200/200, ₹75 lakh, 340 km pavements, 53 gardens greening, 19 acres forest conversion
  • 2nd: Jhansi & Moradabad – Score 198.5/200, ₹25 lakh each, urban greening & infrastructure development
  • 3rd: Alwar – Score 197.6/200, ₹25 lakh, legacy waste dump remediation

Category 3 – Population under 3 lakh

  • 1st: Dewas – Score 193/200, ₹37.5 lakh, cleaner fuel shift for industries
  • 2nd: Parwanoo – Score 191.5/200, ₹25 lakh, road pavement improvement
  • 3rd: Angul – Score 191/200, ₹12.5 lakh, road infrastructure & public outreach

Multiple Winners

  • Moradabad & Agra: 3-time winners
  • Indore, Jabalpur, Surat, Jhansi, Dewas, Parwanoo, Angul: 2-time winners
  • Alwar: New winner

Wetland City Recognition (Ramsar Convention)

  • Indore & Udaipur received international recognition as Wetland Cities
  • Awards handed to Mayors and District Collectors

Funding & Infrastructure

  • Over ₹1.55 lakh croremobilized for clean air & green infrastructure
    • NCAP allocation: ₹20,130 Cr
    • Air Quality Performance-linked grants: ₹13,237 Cr
    • Additional convergence through schemes: ₹73,350 Cr (Central), ₹82,000 Cr (State & Local)
  • Key schemes involved: Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), AMRUT, Smart City Mission, SATAT, FAME-II, Nagar Van Yojana

Key Initiatives & Guidelines

  • Annual survey will expand to ward-level monitoring
  • Compendium of Best Practices released for guiding urban air quality initiatives
  • PRANA digital platform tracks progress & ensures transparency
  • Mission Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Target 75 crore plants (17 Sep – 2 Oct 2025)
  • 75 Nagar Vans to be developed under Nagar Van Yojana
  • Ramsar sites in India increased to 91 (from 25 in 2014), largest in Asia, 3rd globally

Achievements & Impact

  • NCAP showed improvement in 103/130 cities
  • 64 cities achieved 20% PM10 reduction (2024-25 vs 2017-18)
  • 25 cities achieved 40% PM10 reduction
  • Circular Economy emphasis: recycle & reuse focus over ‘take-make-dispose’
