1. ONLY Potential Energy (PE)

👉 Energy due to position or configuration, no motion

Examples:

  • Water stored in a dam (not flowing)
  • A stretched/compressed spring at rest
  • A book kept on a shelf
  • A stone held at height (not moving)

✔ Object is at rest → only PE

2. ONLY Kinetic Energy (KE)

👉 Energy due to motion only, negligible height/position effect

Examples:

  • Moving car on a flat road
  • Rolling ball on ground
  • Running person
  • Bullet in motion

✔ Object is moving → only KE

3. BOTH PE & KE

👉 Object has height (PE) + motion (KE)

Examples:

  • A pendulum in motion (not at extreme)
  • Ball thrown upward (in air)
  • Roller coaster moving at height
  • Water falling from a waterfall

Moving + at height → both PE & KE

4. NONE (No PE, No KE)

👉 No motion + no significant height

Examples:

  • Stone lying on ground
  • Book kept on floor
  • Ball at rest on ground

No motion + ground level → no PE, no KE (approx.)

Quick Formula Link (for concept clarity)

  • PE = mgh
  • KE = ½mv²
